Driving the Chevy HHR

Your car is parked in J-8.

Wow, that is ugly. Ah well, I'm just renting it for 10 days. Let's get the seat in the right position. There's the control to move it up, and now let's tilt the seat back. Nope, that adjusts the lumbar support, which is actually too high up and I can feel the metal bar digging into my spine. Ah I see. I guess that tilts the entire seat, not just the back. This is seriously uncomfortable.

Classic Chevy: pushing the gas makes it louder, but doesn't make it go. The handling is rather sloppy too. The tires are flexing even in fairly light turns.

Time to wait at an intersection. The roof is too low and forward. I can't see the light.

Time to make a left turn. The A pillar is blocking my view of the oncoming traffic.

Time to make a right turn. The B pillar is blocking my view of the traffic from the left.

Is there someone in the lane to my right? All I see is the rearview mirror.

I'd like to put my phone in the cupholder, but the slot for cup handles lets my phone fall out.

Let me check myself out in the vanity mirror. The mirror is angled to the passenger seat unless I pop the blind out of its holder.

Fine. I want some music. Here's a button with musical notes on it, but that doesn't turn the radio on.

And why is there a tiny white light in a hole in the ceiling that doesn't seem to turn off for any reason?

How did someone create this car?

Job hunting

"Hi, my name is Joe and I am looking for a fulltime position. Is your company offering any for computer science majors?"

We are currently hiring computer science majors. Do you have a resume with you?

"Yes, here it is."

Are you more interested in software or hardware?

"I prefer software, but I'm open to anything"

Alright. Let me tell you a little bit about us. We are a large and diverse corporation working with cutting edge technology. Our employees have many opportunities to relocate and change job roles. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package including health and 401(k). Do you have any questions for me?

"No, not right this moment"

Ok. We'll put your resume on file and will follow up with you if you're selected for an interview. Make sure you also go online and submit your resume there, without that we will not be able to proceed. It was nice talking to you.

"Thank you. It was nice talking to you too."

Senior year

I don't understand why all these major software companies produce software with so many bugs. I bet they never learned about the model-view-controller pattern and don't use good object-oriented design. If they did, they could just add all their new features in a nice consistent way and everything would just work. I bet those developers are all 50 years old and living in the old-school world of C and have never even heard of object-oriented design. They probably don't even know what objects are. I bet they spend all their time worrying about optimizations that the compiler will just take care of for them.

I am better than them.
